Pantanal encompasses an ecological paradise of around 240 000 km2 with a rich, varied fauna and flora, set on a special fluvial landscape. The Pantanal is a better place to see wildlife, although the Amazon is more famous. It is flat and there are large, wide open spaces, making wildlife more visible and easier to hear.
We are a Miranda based tour operator specializing in south Pantanal & Bonito. We offer lodge and farm tours and our own adventure expeditions, which focus on our philosophy of using your instincts and natural senses to enjoy the Pantanal.
Our adventures are different because they are done in private groups, maintaining an intimate experience with the nature of the Pantanal. Our guides speak fluent English and Portuguese (amongst other languages).
When I founded Pantanal Wilderness, I had a vision to help people: feel, see, smell, touch, taste, hear and enjoy the Pantanal.
My family and clansmen have raised me according to the genuine native indian tradition where – passing on knowledge and skills is highly valued in our culture. I speak Portuguese, English, Spanish and I am learning Terena, Kadiweu and German.
Ekta initially came to the Pantanal as a guest and then future volunteer. She now lives in Miranda and works for Pantanal Wilderness.
Ekta responds to emails and is also learning how to be a guide in the Pantanal. She speaks fluent English, Gujarati, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
Luiz is a native Terena Indian and we have been working together for a long time.
At the moment, Luiz Marcelo is one of the best genuine native jungle guide in south Pantanal – Abobral region. In 2015, he joined our team and has already started collecting some excellent reviews Luiz speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Flavia Claro lived and had a stable career in the city of São Paulo, her hometown.
Unhappy with the rush and stress of the capital, she decided to take a sabbatical to travel and connect with nature, that she so loves. It was during a trip through Central-west Brazil that she decided to move to the Pantanal. Today she works at Pantanal Wilderness and is responsible for national reservations, social media, photography and filming on their tours.
We enjoyed the 3 days in the Pantanal with you very much. Thank you so much for your hospitality and that we could stay at your place with our campervan before the tour really started. It was great that we could make the trip with our own car. It was incredible how many things and animals we have seen (jaguars, otters, deers, monkeys, piranhas, aras, tucans and many other birds) - even thought we made the journey during the wet season. Thanks to your knowledge we have seen, heard and smelled them. It was an incredible experience and the tour was really customized to our wishes. We wish you all the best for the future. Kind regards Daniela and Roman
Dear Ekta and your organisation Pantanal Wilderness. You did the perfect trip for us. We enjoyed the nature and the animals in Pantanal very much. A big thank you to our guide Luiz, without him we wouldn't have seen so much. With his experience and knowledge we learned so much about animals and nature. Thanks from us all. - We visited in
Three really wonderful days with Luiz. A highly reliable and knowledgeable guide, always on time, very friendly. In his calm manner, he provided a wealth of information on the flora and fauna of his beloved Pantanal. Thank you Luiz! Muito obrigada! Excellent organisation by Ekta, always very promptly answered questions. We had read about the Pantanal, but could not imagine how it feels to be here. Even during rainy days it is exciting, more birds to see.
We visited in August 2015.... We stayed 6 nights in Bonito and the Pantanal. Everything worked perfectly fine. Ekta was very helpful in arranging the whole trip. Bonito was spectacular. But the Pantanal was something else. Marcello, with whom we did several tours in the Pantanal, knows the area like the back of his hand. He used to say: "This is my living room.". We couldn't have found any better guide - his knowledge of flora and fauna is simply extraordinary. We will definitely be back for another tour with Marcello and we can just highly recommend Pantanal Wilderness!!!
We contacted Ekta from Pantanal Wildernessl few months ago by E-mail from Germany. We were delighted to get quick answers and with Ekta's help we worked out our own tour program. We spend 3 days in the Pantanal and 1 day in Jardim for snorkeling in the Rio da Prata. Marcelo our guide in the Pantanal was excellent and he helped us to get the best pictures from the bird. We saw a lot of species, even a pair of blue macaws! Marcelos knowledge helped a lot to see the birds. We defenitley can recommand the Pantanal. The same was our snokelling tour in Jardim, outstanding! So thank you very much for the perfect organization and caring for us all the trip. - We visited in June 2015.
- Best wild life tour out there!!! (May 2017) - It truly was such an amazing experience tracking down jaguars with Marcelo in such a stunning place like the Pantanal. He knows the Pantanal like his own pocket and is super knowledgable about the flora and fauna there. I can highly recommend doing a tour with him- I promise you'll never forget what you see, hear, smell and taste out there in the jungle! Everything was very well organized and I felt safe the whole time being surrounded by alligators, jaguars, piranhas and what not. During the couple of days he was not only a guide to me but has become a true friend!
Wonderful days in the Pantanal (August 2017) - I followed recommendations in several guide books and organized my stay in the Pantanal through Pantanal Wilderness. Ekta Shah of Pantanal Wilderness, who is originally from England (so there are no language problems), took care of everything and planned my 3 days / 2 nights in the Pantanal. She was very good at keeping in touch and communication was very straightforward (through mail and whatsapp). Once in Campo Grande everything went like clockwork. I went to the bus station and collected the bus ticket that had already been paid for by Pantanal Wilderness. I got off where Ekta had told me and Luíz, my bi-lingual guide, was already waiting. The guide was very knowledgeable and made this trip unforgettable. If I ever were to go back to the Pantanal, I would always do so through Pantanal Wilderness. MUITO OBRIGADO!
For our first trip to the Pantanal and as seasoned ecotourists, we were only interested in experiencing this amazing part of the world through the senses of an indigenous guide and in Marcello, we could not have found anyone better! His knowledge of flora and fauna and the lay of the land (and water!) was exceptional! His imitation calls of several animal and bird species will never be forgotten! We had contracted his company, Pantanal Wilderness, for us to experience the best eco-wildlife interactions and needless to say, we were not disappointed. Ekta, the office manager, not only customized the tour per our requests but also accompanied us for part of the trip as she speaks fluent Portuguese, English and Gujarati! I highly recommend Pantanal Wilderness.
We had seen some good reviews on Pantanal Wilderness so we contacted them. Ekta has always been honest and precise in her answers which was not the case with the other places we contacted... so that was a big plus: no bad surprises. Which was good as we were travelling with my children who are 9 and 11. When we got there, we started with a night in Miranda, where Ekta and Marcelo were very welcoming. Clean lodging and great breakfast. And they both spoke perfect English. We left early with Marcelo & our driver on our private photo safari tour in Pantanal. There we saw lots of alligators, and birds like Ibis, Blue Macaws, Toucans, Herons, Kingfishers etc... The lodging at night was better than expected. it was on a ranch with horses, lots of birds, and clean facilities. We did not see many animals on the night safari, nor on our walk but seeing the battles for survival in the fauna world was interesting. The boat ride on the second day was great. Marcelo shared information on his Native culture which was really interesting and of course on animals... We found traces of jaguars but did not see them. But did see monkeys and capybaras as well as an iguana and a tarantula. Because of human activity in Pantanal, you need to go deeper and deeper in the region to see animals, and so 2 days was a bit short. If you have time, try to do 3 days. Thank you to Ekta and Marcelo for a memoriable adventure !
- I was a little apprehensive of this marshy wetland tour but it was outstanding. Our guide shared so much history, culture, and general education to our group. This is his native land and he loves it immensely. The rooms were find and the food was good, and each day of our three day stay offered new experiences. Wildlife surrounded us and the chachalaca birds became our alarm clock each morning. Thank you Marcello for an unforgettable experience.
End of November 2016. Elisabeth and Willy on a wonderful , unforgettable trip in the Pantanal. It was 4 exciting days with Marcelo and Ekta on the Miranda river and the surrounding area. i have never experienced nature so intensively. Very many animals at and in the river. So many caymans and capivaras accompanied us during the wonderful boat trip. A Highlight was the hike in the jungle. Arthropods, birds, aras, nasenbears and monkeys...it was fabulous. Dear Ekta and Marcelo, thank you for the wonderful time in your Paradiese. On a reunion…
